Christmas ornaments: history and meaning

Since ancient times, primitive people in their huts introduced to the traditional Christmas decorations the evergreens and flowers, seeing in them a magical or religious significance. The Greeks and Romans decorated their homes with ivy. The Celts and Scandinavians preferred mistletoe and many other evergreens (such as holly, butcher’s broom, laurel and branches of pine or fir) they thought they had magical or medicinal powers for diseases.
